If you are interested in American Bulldogs, it is high time for you to go online and find tons of comprehensive information on the breed and view a colorful American Bulldog Pic. American Bulldogs are very different from English Bulldogs. They are more enduring and athletic, and are more like the Old English Bulldog, from which many Mastiff-type breeds of today have sprung. Old English Bulldogs were bred as butcher dogs, as well as for “bull baiting”, a bloody sport that was outlawed in 1835. English breeders stopped cultivating ferocity in the Bulldog and concentrated on the dog’s companion qualities.

American Bulldogs are very similar to the Old English Bulldog, but they are not supposed to be vicious. They are very people-oriented and self-sacrificing, and will stop at nothing in defending their loved ones. They are not even as wary of strangers as many people mistakenly think they are. Of course, they are alert with strangers, but once they realize there is nothing to worry about the new person, peace is settled easily. However, they are quite demanding in terms of training and companionship, and it takes more than just a look at an American Bulldog Pic to make a true Bulldog owner.

If you compare a modern American Bulldog Pic with that of an Old English Bulldog, you will have no doubt about the direct genetic relationship between these two species. American Bulldogs are sturdy and muscular dogs, with powerful limbs, broad and muscular chest and a characteristic box-shaped muzzle. The teeth close in a level or scissors bite, like in the Old Bulldog, enabling the dog to firmly grip the enemy. Eyes are rounded, and any color is permissible. American Bulldog’s ears can be of various types, including rose-shaped, pendant and half-pricked. American Bulldog owners prefer not to have their dogs’ ears cropped, as it is permitted in this breed. The coat is short and harsh, coming in solid white or in combinations of white with tan, brindle, red, brown etc.

There are two distinct lines in the American Bulldog breed: the Johnson line and the Scott line, according to the breeders who developed them. The Johnson type Bulldog is sturdier and larger than the Scott type. Johnson type Bulldogs also have a shorter muzzle. They are also referred to as Classic (Bully) type Bulldogs, while Scott type dogs are known as Performance (Standard) type Bulldogs. Despite the distinction, these two lines are often interbred, and the boundary seems to be getting blurred every year. For better understanding of the discrepancy, you can pick up a good American Bulldog Pic per breed type and trace the basic differences.
